Eating Disorder Support for Men in New York City

What We Address

Eating disorders do not discriminate. They affect men of every age, background, and walk of life — yet for too long, the conversation around eating disorders has left men out entirely. The result is that millions of men suffer in silence, convinced that what they are experiencing does not count, does not qualify, or is not serious enough to deserve help.
At The Munch Bunch, we are here to tell you it counts. It qualifies. And you deserve support. Our peer-led lunch sessions were built specifically for men navigating eating disorders — creating a space that is honest, transparent, and completely free of judgment.

Eating Disorders in Men — The Reality

Eating disorders in men are far more common than most people think. They are simply far less talked about. Binge eating disorder, anorexia, bulimia, ARFID, and orthorexia all affect men at significant rates, yet the stigma surrounding male eating disorders keeps most men from ever seeking the help they need.
The Munch Bunch exists to close that gap. By bringing men together over a shared meal, we create the kind of honest, open conversation that most men have never had the opportunity to have — and that can genuinely change the course of a recovery journey.

Conditions We Support

Binge Eating Disorder

One of the most common yet underreported eating disorders in men. Characterized by recurring episodes of eating large quantities of food, often rapidly and to the point of discomfort, followed by feelings of shame and guilt.

Anorexia Nervosa

A serious and often misunderstood condition in men. Involves severe restriction of food intake driven by a distorted body image and intense fear of weight gain. Often goes undiagnosed in men because it is not recognized as a male condition.

Bulimia Nervosa

Cycles of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors such as purging, excessive exercise, or fasting. In men, bulimia frequently hides behind athletic or fitness-driven behavior making it especially hard to identify.

ARFID

Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder involves extreme selectivity around food that goes beyond picky eating. Often linked to anxiety, sensory sensitivities, or past traumatic experiences with food.

Orthorexia

An obsessive focus on eating only foods deemed healthy or pure. While not always recognized as a formal eating disorder, orthorexia can severely impact quality of life, relationships, and overall mental health.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely. Eating disorders affect men at nearly the same rates as women, yet men make up only a fraction of those who seek treatment. The stigma is real, but so is the condition. The Munch Bunch was created specifically to address this gap.

If your relationship with food causes you significant distress, affects your daily life, or feels out of your control, it is worth talking to someone about. You do not need a formal diagnosis to join our sessions or to deserve support.

Our sessions welcome men dealing with binge eating disorder, anorexia, bulimia, ARFID, orthorexia, and any other disordered eating patterns — regardless of whether they carry a formal diagnosis.

No. We are a peer-led community support group. We are not a medical or clinical provider and we do not offer treatment. We do however maintain full transparency about professional resources and will always help guide members toward the appropriate level of care.

We are the first large-scale all-male eating disorder lunch support group of our kind. Our suggestion box format means every session is shaped by the people in it. No two sessions are exactly alike, and every voice in the room has a say in how things run.
